“We recently returned from a trip to Ecuador to take a week-long ride with Sally Vergette of Ride Andes. The ride met all of our expectations and more. One of the many highlights was to see how well Sally cares for her horses. The care they get really shows in how well-mannered and enthusiastic they are - they seemed to enjoy the ride as much as we did. We stayed at working haciendas where we were made to feel as welcome as old friends coming back for a visit. The meals were simple but delicious, many based on local dishes and ingredients.
The guides Sally works with are from the local community and seemed to know everything about the region, from the natural history of the area, the plants and birds, to the economy of the haciendas. As biologists, we really appreciated how much we learned from them.
