The Andean Adventure by outfitter Ride Andes is outstanding.  Founder and Guide [Sally] has deployed 25 years of knowledge and experience in Ecuador to create a truly unique experience.  Every detail is carefully choreographed.  Upon arrival at Quito Airport, we were greeted by a friendly escort to an English-Friendly Bed and Breakfast for altitude acclimatization.  The food is always yummy with local, familiar and international choices.

At each Hacienda, we met new friends.  Most of these are old friends to Ride Andes.  The trust and accessibility could only have been accomplished through years of friendship and residence in the community.  Sally is originally from the UK and grew up in a traditional English riding curriculum.  When combined with the 25+ years of trail tours and exploring in Ecuador and South America and other countries, it’s clear that she is uniquely qualified to bridge some of the gaps that may exist between Northern tourists and our Ecuadorian hosts.

Each horse was very fit, well behaved and they each knew and liked their work.   Sally takes care to match the horses by size and temperament to each rider.  The tack choices sometimes combine technologies and are a good fit for the 4 to 7 hours of riding each day.   The team is proactive about getting the stirrups and equipment just right.  The horses are of Criollo heritage or some carefully chosen Criollo crosses.  Their trots and canters are very smooth and transition easily.  Whatever type of riding you enjoy most at home, Ride Andes can accommodate your needs.

The scenery is beautiful with the terrain ever varied.  Beyond the geography, the experience included lessons and discussions in history, anthropology, agriculture, geology…and there is time for quiet.  All the guides know of the local flora and fauna, and have a keen eye to find it and share it with you.   Ride Andes is about acquiring the whole experience from the horseback point of view.  Hiking, Biking, and car tours are all OK…however…this trip would be impossible without the horses.  The horses were always a compliment, and never a distraction.

There is an extensive team of staff, Chagras [skilled local horsemen], guides, friends, subcontractors and others working seamlessly behind the scenes.”

Ride Andes has been operating for almost 30 years.

Owner guided rides, small groups (also private ride options), great variety of scenery and pace, rarely riding single file.
