Private & group horseback riding tours

  • One centre based horseback rides
  • Modestly priced accommodation in stunning location
  • Experienced & beginner horse riders welcome
  • Great, tranquil stop over on way to/from the famous Otavalo market

The small farm, “La Finca” sits on the valley floor in a stunning location close to the foothills of the snow-capped Cayambe Volcano, north of the town that shares its name and close to the entrance to the sleepy, verdant Zuleta Valley. Just a 75 minutes drive from Quito airport and 90 minutes from colonial Quito.

After your stay with us, we can arrange a transfer for you to the colourful Otavalo market.

This area offers wonderful horse riding opportunities through beautiful and varied scenery.  We have many years of experience in running horse riding tours and can cater, with great flexibility, for all horse riding abilities.

We offer a one-centre based itinerary from our base at La Finca. Guests horseback ride out daily, returning to their comfortable, catered accommodation in the evening. This option is perfect for the time pressed; rusty riders looking to get back in the saddle (possibly before joining one of our longer tours); or those who simply wish to be based in one place, while they enjoy exploring Ecuador on horseback with us.

From La Finca there are variety of circuit rides, covering different terrain and of different lengths, allowing us to tailor the horse rides to our guests’ requirements. Some routes lead us up into the surrounding hills, providing breath-taking views over the valleys below us or of the snow-capped peaks, the closest of which is Cayambe. Other routes wind along wide grassy trails, through conifer forests, and past some of the local hamlets, allowing for some faster paced riding. This horseback riding tour has many different trails to choose from and the wonderful flora and fauna that surrounds us our guests finds a picture postcard around every corner.

The La Finca is very flexible. While some guests enjoy all day in the saddle, others prefer shorter horseback rides and to participate in other activities or to simply relax and unwind at this incredibly peaceful location. There is the option for half and full day trips that can include walking, more strenuous hiking, bird watching, visits to local markets, mountain biking (for the experienced and non experienced) and a trip onto the Cayambe Volcano’s glacier.
