Our tours in the Northern Highlands of Ecuador have many opportunities to see the majestic creatures of the country. The Andean Condor has a ten foot wing span and is one of the largest birds in the world to fly. On a recent ride, we saw one in the sky on the first day to be followed by 22 on the last. One of our stops on our hacienda tour is at a stunning farm that also sponsors a condor project as the birds are near threatened list. Please contact us for more information about our tours and the places we go and animals that we are most guaranteed to see while riding.

Here is what guests had to say about our last Volcanoes & Vistas ride, which ended in March:
“ Sally is an exceptional guide and has nice horses and runs an excellent operation. ..we definitely benefited from her extensive knowledge about horses and about Ecuador. She was really interesting,, so impressively hard working and good company The horses were lovely, and it was a pleasure to see how much she valued them and the care that she took looking after them…
The trip [on horseback to the remote village] was outstanding. To ride those brave native horses was a privilege and an outing that I shall never forget. … It was absolutely fascinating and I would love to go back sometime … Riding a horse or hiking was really the only way to get there- again to be able to visit somewhere so remote and see how other people still live differently in the 21st century was an wonderful experience.” C & P, March 2019.
Riding between ‘fazendas’ in this fascinating, wildlife rich area.
The guide is a local who has been leading rides for us for a few years. He is passionate about the Pantanal and its wildlife, an excellent rider and speaks perfect English.
“Pantanal! What and where? Never heard about such place until we checked RideAndes website last summer. What a wonderful ride for riding nature-lovers, in the middle (literally!) of South America. Thank you Sally, for organizing this special ride, you have wrapped a splendid package. Our local guide, born in the saddle, knew everything about flora and fauna in the Pantanal. We felt very welcome - nice people, good food and wine, cool rooms for warm nights…” ER

“Thank you for a most amazing adventure and experience in the Andes! Your horses were excellent, and the pace perfect for enjoying nature, culture, and the magic rhythm of being one with a good mount. I’ve done many horse vacations, and this ranks amongst the best. “ AK, January 2019.

As part of our commitment to the animals of Ecuador, Ride Andes is passionately involved in grassroots programs that foster rescued horses and dogs. Our latest addition to the farm is this brood of puppies and their mother, who came to us pregnant about six weeks ago. We are actively seeking good homes for the newborns and are enjoying their company while they grow and play. Medical costs including sterilization and shots are being taken care of and we look forward to sharing more information about this aspect of our work in the future.
Following sandy tracks, we then descend into the Zuleta valley with dramatic views of the ancient tumili and earth pyramids erected by the pre-Inca population we ride on to a working farm in the middle of this tranquil valley seldom visited by tourists. Guests can walk into the tiny village and see examples of the hand embroidery that has made the valley famous.Read More
